The Fault in Our Stars
“You’re like a millennial Natalie Portman. Like V for Vendetta Natalie Portman.”
“Never seen it,” I said.
“Really?” he asked. “Pixie-haired gorgeous girl dislikes authority and can’t help but fall for a boy she knows is trouble. It’s your autobiography, so far as I can tell.”
Natural Born Charmer (Susan Elizabeth Phillips)
"I have so much character that adding beauty to the mix would be greedy."
Secrets Of A Summer Night (Lisa Kleypas)
“Kiss me again.”
“No, I’ll hurt you. I’m leaning on your
leg.”
“That’s not my leg,”
Taking Shots (Toni Aleo)
What’s your favorite movie?”
“Pride and Prejudice. It’s also
my favorite book.”
“Never seen or read it.”
She looked up at him like he was an
alien. “Excuse me?”
“What?”
“You’ve never read or seen Pride and Prejudice?”
“No, why?”
“Um, it’s the greatest love story ever! Oh, my goodness, you know,”
she started to move out of the booth, “this isn’t going to work, I’ll see you
around.”
Shadow and Bone (Leigh Bardugo)
"What else do you have to do with your days? Make maps? Fetch
inks for some old cartographer?”
“There’s nothing wrong with being a mapmaker.”
“Of course not. And there’s nothing wrong with being a lizard either. Unless
you were born to be a hawk.”
Sophie & Carter (Chelsea Fine)
I sit in front of the TV, tuck my hair behind my ear, and
work on my homework. Teachers say you shouldn’t watch TV while you do homework,
but there’s just something about a cheap reality TV show that makes me feel
smart.
Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate) (Gail Carriger)
“Are you cold?”
Lord Maccon laughed. “Practical as always,
Miss Tarabotti. It is a little chilly in here, but I am well enough for the moment.
“
Alexia looked at his long, powerful, but bare, legs dubiously. “I suppose I
could loan you my underskirt."
The earl snorted. “I hardly think that would
look very dignified.”
Miss Tarabotti reared back so she could look him in the
face for the first time. “I meant to drape over you like a blanket, not to
wear, you ridiculous man!”
The Trouble With Valentine's Day (Rachel Gibson)
"Rob," his mother said, "could you say the
blessing, please?"
He looked up and stared at her, as if she'd just asked
him to stand on his head and speak French.
"You want me to pray?" He
set his fork down. "Right now?"
Grace's smile stayed in place while
she gave him a hard stare. "Of course, dear."
Rob bowed his head, and
his brows came together to form a thick line. Kate half expected him to say
something like, "Good food, good meat, good God, let's eat." He
didn't. "God, please bless this food we're about to eat." He paused a
moment then added, "So that we don't get sick or… choke or something.
Amen."
True Love and Other Disasters (Rachel Gibson)
“Why do you think I’m ‘gay or straight or somewhere in
between?’ ”
Jules looked truly baffled. “Do the other guys think I’m gay?”
Ty shrugged.
“Because I use hair product?”
“No.” He
stepped into his underwear. “Because you say ‘hair product.’ ”
Foretold (Meg Cabot)
Between you and me, I’ve always kind of suspected there was
a little something going on between Duncan and my sister. Why else does Duncan
always go, “Sorry,” whenever KC comes storming in when Duncan and I are
downstairs in the den playing Halo, and tells us to be quiet when she’s trying
to study? Who says “Sorry” when a girl does that, instead of just fart and wave
the fumes in her direction, like a normal person? Clearly, Duncan is in love
with my sister.
Thumped (Megan McCafferty)
“Ooooh my graaaaace …”
“Are you okay?” Jondoe is right
behind me now, a capable hand on each shoulder.
“What’s happening to you?”
“I’m
fine,” I say through gritted teeth. I take a few shallow breaths until the pains
go away. “It’s normal. The twins are just stretching out.”
I right myself and
rotate around just in time for one of the girls to ram her head right up
against my stomach. Jondoe jumps backward, smashes into the countertop, and
nearly topples to the floor.
“HOLY MOTHER. WAS THAT A FACE?”
Bitterblue (Kristin Cashore)
Katsa and Helda were making up the sheets to her bed.
“Thank
goodness,” Katsa said at the sight of her. “Helda’s been trying to impress me
with the embroidery on the sheets. One more minute and I thought I might use
them to hang myself.”
“My mother did the embroidery,” Bitterblue said.
Katsa
clapped her mouth shut and glared at Helda. “Thank you, Helda, for mentioning
that detail.”
Hard Evidence (Pamela Clare)
"I'm half Italian."
"Which half?"
"From the waist down."
The Golden Lily (Richelle Mead)
Dimitri seemed to be trying to find a nice way to respond.
He was as amazing to look at as ever, dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, with a long leather duster
over it al. How anyone could survive wearing a coat like that in Palm Springs
was beyond me, but if anyone could, I supposed it was him. Usualy he only wore
it inside, but sometimes, I’d see it outside too. I’d mentioned this odd
wardrobe choice to Adrian a couple of weeks ago: “Isn’t Dimitri hot?” Adrian’s
response hadn’t been entirely unexpected: “Wel, yeah, according to most women,
at least.”
Once Burned: A Night Prince Novel (Jeaniene Frost)
“What made you choose the name Vlad?” I asked, unable to
resist adding, “It’s not the most original vampire name you could have picked,
after all.”
Instead of being offended, that little smirk was back. “I’m the
only authentic Vlad. Everyone else is merely an envious imitation.”
Wicked Nights (Angels of the Dark) (Gena Showalter)
“You know, you’re pretty when you smile,” she said, patting
the side of his cheek.
“Fierce, woman. I am fierce.”
“If you say so.”
Forgive My Fins (Tera Lynn Childs)
“We can’t just talk like normal underwater.”
He looks
confused. And tries to speak again.
“Sound doesn’t carry as well through gills.
You have to use a different level of your vocal cords.” I point to the spot
just above his Adam’s apple. “Higher.”
He just stares at me, looking
confused—but breathing like he was born to it.
“Pretend you’re talking like a
girl.”
No way, he mouths, shaking his head. Stupid male ego.
“You won’t sound
like a girl,” I assure him. “Because sound travels slower, the register of
everything shifts lower. Just raise your pitch—”
“Like this?” he says, in a
super-squeaky voice.
“Maybe a little lower,” I suggest.
Slammed (Colleen Hoover)
"I hate detention. It's boring. I'd rather lay in
Will's floor with you than sit in detention," she says.
"Maybe we can
try and make it fun," I say.
She turns to open the door but hesitates,
then spins around and faces me. "You know, you're right. Let's make it
fun. I'm pretty sure detention is an hour long. Do you realize how many Chuck
Norris puns we can make in a whole hour?"
I smile at her. "Not as
many as Chuck Norris could."
The Savage Grace (Bree
Despain)
“Okay,” I said. “I think Katie’s had enough partying for one
night.”
I motioned for Slade to pick her up. “Take care of her, will you?” I
asked him.
Slade looked down at Katie, still clinging to his legs, and then
back at me. A stricken look crossed his face. He leaned toward me and
whispered, “Um. To be clear, are you asking me to kill her and dump her body?” “What? no! Why on earth would you think that?”
Babe in Boyland (Jody Gehrman)
I would pay so much money just to know what Rob’s thinking
for like five minutes.” I stop painting my toes and look up. “That’s it!”
Darcy
pauses in her makeup application. “What?”
“That’s my Story of the Year. It’s
perfect.”
Chloe grabs a bottle of hairspray and squirts some on her bangs.
“Rob’s thought process is your story? Sounds like a short one.”
The Raven Boys (Maggie Stiefvater)
(pozn. Persephone je trochu nepodarená veštica)
Footsteps moved softly in the hallway, and then Persephone
stood in the doorway. Maura sighed and looked down at her lap, as if she’d been
expecting this.
“I don’t mean to interrupt. But in either three or seven
minutes,” Persephone said, “Blue’s raven boys are going to pull down the street
and sit in front of the house while they try to find a way to convince her to
sneak out with them.”
Demnoglass (Rachel Hawkins)
They
lumbered toward us, and the one nearest to me reached out one meaty,
thick-fingered hand. His other arm, I noticed as hysteria bubbled up inside me,
was slender, pale, and tipped with bright red nails.
“Ghouls,”I heard Archer
say. His voice was low and tense, like a person who’s being confronted by a
wild animal. “Reanimated human flesh, used as guardians. Seriously dark magic.
Someone obviously didn’t want us finding—”
“Oh my God, less talking, more
stabbing, please.”
