Anglická recenzia: Personal Demons by Lisa Desrochers

Včera som dočítala knihu Personal Demons od Lisy Desrochers a rozhodla som sa po dlhšom čase napísať anglickú recenziu a zverejniť ju na Goodreads. Kedysi som to robila častejšie, no nejako som to v poslednom čase zanedbávala a vyšla som z cviku.

Frannie Cavanaugh is a good Catholic girl with a bit of a wicked streak. She's spent years keeping everyone at a distance—even her closest friends—and it seems her senior year will be more of the same...until Luc Cain enrolls in her class. No one knows where he came from, but Frannie can't seem to stay away from him. What she doesn't know is that Luc works in Acquisitions—for Hell—and she possesses a unique skill set that has the King of Hell tingling with anticipation. All Luc has to do is get her to sin, and he’s as tempting as they come. Frannie doesn’t stand a chance.

Unfortunately for Luc, Heaven has other plans, and the angel, Gabe, is going to do whatever it takes to make sure that Luc doesn’t get what he came for. And it isn't long before they find themselves fighting for more than just her soul.

But if Luc fails, there will be Hell to pay…for all of them.

Personal Demons (Personal Demons, #1)Personal Demons by Lisa Desrochers

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

To tell the truth, I wasn't going to read this book until I learned, that I've actually won it.Now, I'm glad I did, because the book wasn't bad at all. I enjoyed Lisa's writing style and sense of humor. It was amazing to watch Luc changing before my eyes (if I can use this term) and I truly felt for him. Hovewer I found some things in Personal Demons, which seriously bugged me. First of all, Frannie. I really wanted to like her and for about half of the book I did. I even started to get used to her extremly annoying 'cause, but suddenly she was in the middle of this ridiculous love triangle, making out with Luc, then with Gabriel then again with Luc and she didn't even care. Or not really. I get it, she loved them both and she couldn't choose but seriously? Kissing one guy while the other is sitting in the same room and watching? That was just cruel...As much as I loved Luc, I didn't understand, how could he sit there and watch Frannie in Gabriel arms, not even ashamed of what she was doing. I know every girl has a point in her life, when she is confused and doesn't seem to be able to sort her feelings out but I just wish she wouldn't be so unbelievably stupid and selfish. Then there is Gabriel. I guess, according to what was going on in Frannie's head, we were supposed to like both guys or at least to have some difficulties in deciding which guy is better for her. But we only got to see Luc's personality and mind. The only think I've learned about Gabriel was that he was beautiful with beautiful eyes and beautiful soul. Beautiful. That's all. So you have to excuse me, if I didn't get all excited when she was all of the sudden in love with him. Or wathever this "strong" feeling was.
In spite of this , I kind of liked the whole story and plot. There were a lot of mythological acpects and references which, in this case, was a big plus.
I will probably read the second book, but I won't have a problem to wait.
